I visited this cafe for several times to study, and usually ordered two cups of coffee and some food (if I was there at noon). Last Sunday, I arrived at the cafe around 12:30pm and ordered a small cup of Latte since my stomach was not feeling well. Around 3:30pm, the waitress came to me and asked me if I needed anything else. I said I had enough coffee and didn't want more. She continued by offering tea and food options. I said no since I was not hungry. Then, to my big surprise, she said "you sat here for quite a long time. If you are not going to order anything else, then you need to leave" (p.s. there were empty space in the cafe).
I totally understand that a cafe is not a charity organization and you should purchase (continuously in this case) to stay inside, but the question is whether there is any minimum purchase to stay there for several hours. It is quite normal for a customer to order more at sometime and order less at other times. If there is any minimum purchase, then inform the customers in advance. Also, "if you are not going to order anything else, then you need to leave" is not really a nice way to talk with a customer. There are definitely better ways to ask me to leave, for instance, in a more polite way. I used to like this cafe, and was recommended and also recommended it to other people. As you can see from this google review, a lot people enjoyed this place. However, what happened today was my worst experience ever with any cafe.
