This place is quite special. It's a bar with good food and beverages and great views into the Utrecht canals, but their existence is not solely for that. They save up with every drink you order, to ensure a musical intermezzo on Thursdays and Sundays. We encountered a Thursday session, which changes the atmosphere quite a bit from a cafe/restaurant into a small music hall. Worth visiting when near!
Possibly the most chill spot in Utrecht: 1. Staff are awesome - I forgot the Dutch don't use MasterCard much and had run out of cash so couldn't pay, barman's response... "Ah don't worry about it, you can come back and pay us another day, I trust you" 2. Great coffee/beer/food 3. Constant classics playing through their old school speakers next to the cool retro furniture 4. Perfect view of the canal
We only stopped for coffee/tea/chai/water on a pitstop during a kayak trip, so I didn't see the full extent of the place. I liked the cozy atmosphere though and loved the grand piano there. Everything was music themed (go figure, Muzieklokaal) and some unobtrusive jazzy piano music played in the background. The furniture was simple and reminded me of school back in the day. I saw board games next to books in the shelves, which made me want to stop back in there, unfortunately my trip to Utrecht was short, so I didn't get the chance. Animal friendly (a guest lounged there on his laptop with a dog at his feet) and a nice view of the canal. Chill place.
This place is enjoyable in all weather but obviously best in the afternoon with the sun. Bring sunglasses. I spent days working away here, enjoying the always aroma of baking, roasting coffee beans and excellent selection of music played over an especially designed sound system.
